Research Interests:

Professor Hanson's specialties include human osteology, medieval Scandinavia and paleopathology. She reads French, Norwegian, Danish, and a little Swedish and Icelandic. She has experience in several archaeological and museological projects in Alaska, Arizona, New Mexico, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland.

Professional Honors and Memberships:

She is a member of many professional organizations including American Association of Physical Anthropologists, Paleopathology Association, Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Studies, Sigma Xi, Alaska Anthropological Association, European Anthropology Association, and the National Center for Science Education. Dr. Hanson serves on numerous University, Faculty Senate, College of Arts and Sciences, and departmental committees. She has served as a grant and manuscript reviewer for several foundations and professional journals. She currently is on the Editorial Boards of the Anthropological Papers of the University of Alaska and the Paleopathology Newsletter.

Recent Publications:

Her recent publications include "Linear enamel hypoplasias in medieval Scandinavian samples: A preliminary analysis" with Hasmin Miller, a review of The Greenland Norse: A Biological-anthropological Study and a review of Skeleton Keys: an Introduction to Human Skeletal Morphology, Development, and Analysis.
